Managing attendance and performance, and supporting employees in work can be challenging for employers and employees, particularly when employees develop chronic health / medical conditions or a Disability and may require reasonable adjustments to help them stay in or return to work after sickness.
A fitness for work medical assessment can help employees to stay in work and will facilitate a speedy and effective return to work. All our fitness for work assessments are undertaken by our accredited specialist consultant in Occupational Medicine who is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, London and Ireland.
Following receipt of a detailed management referral form, cases are e-triaged by the accredited specialist within 1 - 2 working days and you will then receive feedback on an appointment date and time. Some more complex cases may require additional time for an appointment over and above the routine 60 minutes.
Appointments are usually available within 10-15 working days of e-triage, by telephone / video consultation or by face to face assessments in cases who require a physical examination. Appointment duration and costs will be determined by the case complexity of the case by e-triage of referrals. Some complex referrals will require a double appointment. All fitness for work referrals are assessed by the accredited specialist consultant in occupational medicine and appointments are for a minimum of 60 minutes.
Assessment includes taking a medical and occupational history, reviewing any medical information provided, examining and undertaking an assessment of functional capacity. The outcome is a fitness for work report back to the referrer, answering any specific questions in the referral form. The employee (patient) will also be given health advice, treatment recommendations, and may be referred back to their GP and/or other specialist if their treatment has not been optimised. This is known as a direct patient care aspect of our expert service.
Reports will be completed either the same day or within 2 working days, and made available for the client to view prior to or at the same time as being sent to management (in line with GMC and ethical guidance).
The comprehensive occupational medicine fitness for work reports will then be e-mailed as password protected PDF documents to the referrer, to maintain confidentiality. In a self referral this will be sent to the individual, who then has the control as to who to share the report with.
To refer your employee for an occupational Health / Medicine Assessment, please follow the tab above to 'Management referral', complete the online referral form fully and then submit. It is important sufficient background information is provided to enable e-triage to be as effective as possible.
